At 3THW, we believe recess is more than just a break–its an opportunity for students to develop essential social, emotional, and physical skills. Our Structured Recess approach transforms unstructured play into an intentional experience that promotes teamwork, conflict resolution, and positive peer interaction.
Providing students a safe recess space is our top priority. Recess is a free place for students to choose what they would like to do, it needs to be a physically and emotionally safe space. Teachers should feel their students are safe from rough play and bullying during recess.
In order to provide a safe place for students to play and interact, structures must be put in place. Building routines for the beginning, during and end of the activity period is vital to a successful structured recess.
Preparing fun and innovative strategies to the recess yard builds engagement and relationships that can go way further than the playground. The ability to plan and modify activities to best suit specific ages of students keeps the recess yard fresh and inviting. A fun recess yard also helps enforce the structures and safety.
